In addition to crawling and flying insects that we tend see, Termite Control is another facet of our business. Termites often go unseen and never thought about until it is too late. Once damage is found then it becomes a priority. Statistics from NC State University show that in North Carolina there are an average of 2.8 termite colonies within 20 feet of every home. This statistic is supported in that more homes are damaged every year by termites than by house fires.
We offer complete prevention for new construction and for those of you who already have an infestation; we can treat to eliminate them from your structure. We are an authorized applicator for Termidor which we believe to be absolutely the best termite defense available today. If desired, we can use eco-friendly boracare system for treatment of structural wood.
Homeowners rarely realize termites are causing damage to their house until the cellulose-hungry insects have permanently damaged the structure. This damage may be a surprise because termites are cryptobiotic, meaning their activities are hidden from view. Termites’ cryptobiotic behavior contributes to their success in invading human structures.
Termites can consume the inside of a 2" x 4" piece of framing wood, but still keep the outside of the wood surface intact. Most homeowners have no idea that termites have infested their house unless they break through the surface of an infested piece of wood or they see other signs of termite damage, such as a swarm. |
| While termite colonies are extremely difficult to see, there are several signs of termite infestations that every homeowner should know. |
 |
Subterranean Termites:
Mud Tubes:
Subterranean termites need moisture to survive, which means they rely on their soil habitat for the moisture they need. When termites travel above ground, they have to take the soil with them to protect themselves from drying out. Subterranean termites build mud tubes above ground so termite workers can travel inside the protected structure when foraging between the infested wood and their nest. The tubes may be easy to spot when they extend over concrete foundations and other exposed surfaces. However, the tubes are much less visible when they run along cracks in the foundation or behind siding and baseboards. |
 |
Wood Damage:
Subterranean termites only like to eat soft spring wood fiber, which means they will eat along the wood grain, rather than across it. Subterranean termite damage is very easy to identify because the damaged wood will only have the grain left behind. Since subterranean termites carry soil with them, the spaces between the wood grains are typically packed with mud. Both drywood and subterranean galleries (small rooms inside the wood connected by tunnels) can be detected by tapping a piece of wood every few inches with the handle of a screwdriver. The damaged wood will sound hollow, and the screwdriver may even break through the wood into the galleries. |
 |
Advanced undetectable technology:
Termidor is made from a revolutionary new nonrepellent or "undetectable" chemical technology treatment. That means termites cannot see, smell, taste or avoid Termidor. Instead they contact, ingest, and share it with their nestmates. This is in sharp contrast to older liquid termite controls, which rely on repellent barriers that termites can finds breaks in or avoid completely.
How Termidor protects your home from termites:
After Termidor is applied, termites that contact it transfer it to every other termite they in turn contact in a unique process called the "Transfer Effect." And because Termidor is engineered to be slow-acting, termites have ample time to spread it throughout their entire termite population. |
 |
Better than bait... without the wait:
Baits can take years to control a termite colony. Termidor begins working immediately to wipe out termites inside and immediately surrounding your home. Termidor is the most effective and fastest at completely eliminating termite populations ? up to six-times faster than bait systems.
No better choice for protecting your home against termites:
Termidor is the only termite defense that combines a unique mode of action, a long residual, and the ability to manage colonies faster than a baiting system all in a low-dose, low-odor formulation that meets the stringent standards of the Food Quality Protection Act. There simply is no better choice for termite defense. Termidor is the worlds most effective termiticide with over 10 years of test data prove unparalleled effectiveness. |

Small holes in wood, crumbling drywall, sagging doors or floors, insect wings, and small mud tubes are some of the more obvious potential signs of termites. But even if you don't notice any of these signs, that doesn't necessarily mean termites, or the conditions that invite them, aren't there.
Regular inspections by a licensed pest professional are the only way to ensure your home truly is, and remains, free from termites and the damage that they cause. Qualified pest professionals have the training in termite biology and behavior to identify, prevent, and treat termite problems. A pest professional will perform a thorough inspection of your home to determine if, where, and how termites are getting in. They can also explain how to correct any conditions in your home that invite termites to help you protect your home. |
 |
How can you help protect your home:
- Don't affix wooden trellises to exterior walls.
- Keep mulch, wood debris, scrap lumber, sawdust, and firewood away from your home. If you do keep firewood outside your house during the winter, keep it raised off the ground.
- Trim all shrubs, bushes and other dense greenery away from the foundation of your home. Move mulch away from the foundation as well.
- Don't bury wood debris near your home.
- Remove infested trees and stumps.
- Repair leaking faucets and water lines, both indoors and outdoors.
- Fix leaky roofs and gutters.
- Don't allow leaves to accumulate in gutters and drains.
- Grade soil so that water (including air conditioning condensate) runs away from foundations.
- Ventilate crawl spaces and attics to reduce humidity.
- Cover at least 90% of the soil in crawl spaces with plastic sheeting.
- Ideally, wood siding, stucco, and foam board should be at least six inches away from the ground.
- Seal all cracks and holes in your home's foundation, which may provide a handy access point for termites.
